Charmingo Sews Youth Atelier (Ah-tel-ee-yay) gives young learners structured, skills-led sewing and dressmaking education — taught with the same techniques, the same equipment, and the same care we give every learner who walks through our studio doors.
If your child is the kind who's already sketching designs, wanting to alter their own clothes, or asking for a sewing machine of their own — this is built for them.
Who this is for
Places are reserved for children and teenagers with a genuine interest in sewing and design. We want every learner in the room to want to be there — so we reserve the right to decline or withdraw a booking where that isn't the case.
More than a skill
Small groups mean real connection — not just technique.
Working alongside others on shared project builds friendships that grow naturally out of doing something together, a different kind of connection to the ones made at school. In a small group, every learner is seen, and that matters.
Craft is also quietly powerful for wellbeing. The focus and rhythm of hands-on making gives young people a calm, screen-free space to switch off, concentrate, and feel a genuine sense of achievement — benefits that sit alongside the technical skills, not apart from them.
Two age groups, Friday evenings
Weekly, across a 14-week term. Refreshments and all materials included — no sewing machine of their own required.
9–12 years
5:45pm – 7:15pm
13–16 years
7:15pm – 8:45pm
What they'll learn
Techniques and concepts taught at college level, built up gradually and made accessible from a young age.
— Free motion embroidery
— Reading and understanding sewing patterns
— Taking and understanding measurements, using overlockers
— Fabric understanding — cotton, canvas, viscose and more
— Design elements, including draping
— 3D techniques: gathering, pleats, ruffles and shirring
— Colour theory

Real, wearable, giftable projects — not one-off samples destined for the bin.
