The Charmingo Sew-Off:

Can you sew against the clock?

If you've ever found yourself glued to a television sewing competition, quietly thinking, "I'd love to have a go at that," then we've created something just for you.

We're incredibly excited to introduce The Charmingo Sew-Off – a brand-new series of live sewing challenges hosted here at Charmingo Sews Academy in the heart of Liverpool.

Designed for competent beginner through to advanced home sewists alike, the Sew-Off is your opportunity to step away from the comfort of your sewing room and experience the excitement of sewing against the clock in a fun, friendly and supportive environment.

Inspired by a Love of Sewing Competitions

Like thousands of sewing enthusiasts across the UK, our team looks forward to watching The Great British Sewing Bee each year. The programme has inspired so many people to learn to sew, try new techniques and challenge themselves creatively.

Over the years, we've often heard students say that walking into our studio feels like stepping onto the set of a television sewing competition. Those conversations planted the seed for an idea: what if home sewists could experience some of that excitement for themselves?

That's how The Charmingo Sew-Off was born. While it's entirely our own event, we hope it captures the same sense of creativity, encouragement and enjoyment that has inspired so many people to pick up a needle and thread.

More Than Just Another Sewing Class

The Charmingo Sew-Off isn't a workshop or a lesson.

It's a creative challenge.

Each event features a different sewing task, with competitors given a set amount of time to complete their project before it is judged by our guest judging panel.

The twist?

The pattern or challenge remains a secret until the event begins.

That means everyone starts with exactly the same information, the same amount of time and the same opportunity to impress the judges.

A Different Challenge Every Time

No two Sew-Offs are the same.

Throughout the series you'll find a variety of creative challenges, including Pattern Challenges, Transform Challenges, Denim Transform Challenges and our exciting season finale, Made by Me, where competitors can showcase a garment of their own choosing.

Each event can be booked individually, so there's no need to commit to the full series. Simply choose the challenges that appeal to you most.

Designed for Home Sewists

The Sew-Off has been created specifically for people who already enjoy sewing and are confident working independently.

Whether you've completed sewing courses, regularly make your own clothes or simply love challenging yourself with new projects, this is your chance to put your skills to the test in a welcoming atmosphere.

While there are prizes to be won, the focus is very much on enjoying the experience, meeting like-minded makers and celebrating creativity.

Why We Created The Charmingo Sew-Off

One of the comments we hear time and time again in the studio is, "This feels just like being on a TV sewing competition!"

It's something that's made us smile for a long time and, after hearing it so often, we started asking ourselves a simple question:

Why shouldn't people get to experience that excitement for real?

The Charmingo Sew-Off has been created to give home sewists the opportunity to challenge themselves in a completely different way. It's not about being the fastest or producing perfection every time. It's about stepping outside your comfort zone, making decisions under pressure, trusting your sewing skills and enjoying the experience alongside a group of people who share your passion for making.

Sometimes the biggest confidence boost comes from simply discovering what you're capable of when you push yourself a little further.

Why Challenge Yourself?

It's easy to stay within the projects we know we can make. We all have favourite patterns, familiar techniques and fabrics we feel comfortable sewing.

The Sew-Off encourages you to try something different.

Working against the clock develops confidence, decision-making and problem-solving skills. You'll learn to prioritise, adapt when things don't quite go to plan and discover just how much you can achieve in a few focused hours.

Even if you don't finish first, you'll leave with new experience, new ideas and, we hope, a real sense of achievement.

More Than a Competition

Although there are prizes to be won, The Charmingo Sew-Off has never been about creating a high-pressure environment.

At Charmingo Sews Academy, we've always believed that creativity should be enjoyable, welcoming and supportive. The Sew-Off brings that same ethos into a friendly competition where everyone is cheering each other on.

Some competitors may be entering to win, others simply to challenge themselves, try something new or meet fellow sewists. Whatever your reason for taking part, you'll be welcomed into a room full of people who understand the satisfaction of creating something with their own hands.

Every Sew-Off Tells a Story

One of the things we're most excited about is sharing each Sew-Off beyond the walls of the studio.

Every event will be filmed, capturing not just the finished garments but also the laughs, the last-minute fixes, the problem-solving, the celebrations and everything in between.

We'll be sharing highlights on social media and creating longer YouTube episodes, allowing family, friends and fellow sewing enthusiasts to follow each challenge from start to finish.

Who knows? You might even inspire someone else to take on the next Sew-Off.

A New YouTube Series

One of the most exciting parts of The Charmingo Sew-Off is that every event will be photographed and mildly filmed.

We'll be sharing highlights, behind-the-scenes moments and finished garments across our social media channels, with extended episodes launching on our YouTube channel.

Whether you're taking part or cheering from home, you'll be able to follow the journey as competitors race against the clock to complete each challenge.

Could You Be Our First Sew-Off Champion?

The very first Charmingo Sew-Off takes place on Saturday 1 August, with just eight competitors taking part.

If you've been looking for something different, something exciting and something that celebrates the creativity of home sewing, we'd love you to join us.

After all...

Three hours. One challenge. One winner.
