New Course Alert - Improvers 5 Week Sewing
One thing that has been becoming increasingly apparent is that there’s this quiet, sneaky gap between “I can make a tote bag!” and “I want to make something that actually fits me.”
You finish our Beginners course—proud, buzzing, pockets full of thread scraps. Then you look at our Intermediate course. And... oof. Suddenly it’s all pintucks and pleats and linings and samples that feel like homework. No wonder so many of you say, “I love sewing, but I’m not sure I’m ready for that yet.”
I get it. I’ve been there.
So I made something new.
The Improvers 5-Week Course isn’t about rushing into garments. It’s about staying in that sweet spot: still making things you can hold, use, love—but with a little more polish. A little more “ooh, I did that.”
We start small.
Week one: A padded pouch, clutch, wallet, or wristlet—your choice. (And maybe a tiny warm-up thing, like a key fob, because who doesn’t need a cute key fob?)
You’ll practice darts that actually shape, zips that don’t fight you, interfacing that doesn’t bubble. It’s Beginner-level comfort, but with grown-up finish.
Week two: Pick your bag. Gym duffel? Crossbody? Structured tote? Backpack? Foldaway shopper? We’ll add pockets—real ones, not just flaps—and box corners that stand up straight. If you want it rugged—canvas, khaki, loops for tools—we’ll do that too.
Week three: Bottoms! Skirt, shorts, or pants with an elastic waist or a buttonhole-and-button band. (Or—if you’re more “cozy than couture”—a piped zip cushion. No judgment.) This is where shape starts to matter, but we keep it forgiving—no pattern panic.
Week four: Sleeveless top with a proper facing (think tank or shell), or a workshop apron—reversible if you like. Curved seams, notches, understitching—stuff that makes you feel like you’ve cracked a code.
Week five: We don’t make anything new. We fix what you already own. Bring one or two garments from your wardrobe—jeans too tight, shirt too long, zip that’s given up—and we’ll unpick, adjust, re-hem, re-dart together. It’s like therapy, but with scissors.
Every session: 2.5 hours. Small group. Tea. Biscuits. No homework beyond a bit of pressing. And yes—men, we’ll tweak it for you. Dark fabrics, carabiner clips, tool loops. Same skills, your style.
This isn’t about speed. It’s about confidence. About walking out with five things you actually want to carry, wear, or give away. About knowing why your darts pucker—and how to stop them. About realising sewing isn’t scary once you’ve got the right steps.
If you want to keep going, but not too fast,” this is it. Its also perfect if you are self taught and want to start real lessons but bot want to waste time starting at scractch in Beginners. Perfect to drop any bad habits you have before stepping up to intermediate.
Plus as if that wasn’t appealing enough, you now get to learn in our huge new waterfront studio overlooking the docks…yep, thats right…we have windows now)
See you soon!
