Knitting Through the Generations….

There’s something beautifully nostalgic about knitting. For many of us, the gentle click of needles brings back vivid memories—watching a grandparent or parent stitch away by the fireside, creating cardigans we wore with pride… or at least tried to avoid wearing out in public! Whether they were lovingly handmade masterpieces or quirky, lopsided jumpers, those pieces were crafted with heart and tradition.

Knitting is more than a hobby—it's a generational thread that connects past to present. And the best part? It’s easier to pick up than you might think, especially when someone knowledgeable takes the time to walk you through it. That’s the magic we aim to recreate in our knitting classes at the academy.

The Search for Knitting Tutors

When I opened the academy, I knew knitting had to be a part of our offering. But I quickly discovered that finding someone to teach it was far more difficult than finding someone who could do it. Knitters were everywhere—but most weren’t looking to share their skills. It was frustrating. I nearly gave up on offering knitting classes altogether.

Then, one afternoon, the universe delivered something special.

Enter Pam & Jo: Our Knitting Dream Team

During a lively crochet session, two lovely ladies wandered into the room—Pam and Jo. They introduced themselves, and as we got chatting, it quickly became clear that these weren’t just hobby knitters. Between them, they had over 40 years of experience, countless projects under their belts, and most importantly, a passion for sharing their craft. Pam being left handed was an extra added bonus.

As a matter of fact, Jo came in wearing the most fabulous jumper, Proudly stating that Pam had knitted it for her.

Their energy was infectious, their humour sharp, and their knowledge ran deep. By the end of the chat, I knew I’d struck gold.

Pam and Jo agreed to join the academy as our resident knitting tutors—and what a difference they’ve made.

What Our Knitting Classes Offer:

We now offer all levels of knitting in our classes. Each led by this dynamic duo. Whether you're casting on for the first time or fine-tuning your technique, Jo and Pam make learning fun, approachable, and deeply rewarding.

In each session, you'll explore:

Understanding yarn types, patterns, and tools

Troubleshooting common issues and building lasting skills

What sets these sessions apart is their warmth and interactivity. Jo & Pam don’t just teach—they connect. Each class feels like a creative social club with a whole lot of laughter, encouragement, and support.

And of course, no crafting session at the academy is complete without our signature complimentary tea, coffee, and cake.
