Patchwork & Quilting: Beginners Course 6 Weeks

Whether you're completely new to the world of quilting or you've dabbled with fabrics before, this six-week beginners course (2.5 hours per week) is the perfect place to start your patchwork journey.

Throughout this hands-on course, you’ll be introduced to the art, history, and joy of patchwork and quilting. We’ll explore traditional and modern quilting practices while guiding you step-by-step to create your very own six-block patchwork quilt—a beautiful project you’ll be proud to take home.

What You'll Learn:

~ A brief look at the history and heritage of patchwork and quilting

~ Understanding fabrics, threads, and essential terminology

~ How to cut and sew with precision, using tools like rotary cutters, cutting mats and quilting rulers

~ Introduction to block terminology and how to construct quilt blocks.

~ How to plan and arrange a quilt top with a thoughtful approach to layout and design

~ Understanding features such as sashing, cornerstones, and borders

~ The use of different presser feet required for patchwork & quilting projects.

~ Techniques including sandwiching, binding, and a foundational introduction to machine quilting

Materials & Equipment:

All equipment needed will be provided during the sessions, including tools and fabric to get you started. You’ll only need to bring your own wadding and backing fabric, which you can choose to suit your personal style.

Fancy using your own fabric for a more personalised quilt? You're most welcome to bring it along—though we’ll also have a lovely selection available to choose from.

If you have not previously used a sewing machine you will need to attend an intro to sewing class beforehand to familiarise yourself with the basics.
