You're a confident sewer—now it's time to level up. This course is all about precision, technique, and turning those foundational skills into pro-level results.

We focus on hands-on technique mastery through targeted samples each week, building the toolkit you need for garments and beyond. By the end, you'll confidently handle complex elements like shaping, closures, linings, and decorative finishes—and apply them to a personalised final project.

Who it’s for:

Sewers who’ve completed Beginners (or equivalent) and are comfortable with straight seams, simple zips, basic darts, and making complete small items. Ready to move past “good enough” to polished, professional-looking work? This is your next step.

What you’ll achieve:

  • Master a wide range of intermediate techniques through focused samples (no endless theory—just practical, repeatable practice).

  • Build confidence in garment construction using commercial patterns.

  • Learn to plan, fit, and finish a custom piece with real attention to detail.

  • Troubleshoot common issues like puckering darts, wavy seams, or tricky zips.

  • Walk away with your own garment for your final project that showcases everything you’ve learned.

Key techniques you’ll master

  • Gathering, pintucks, pleats & darts (for shaping and texture)

  • Seams (French, flat-felled), tailor tacks & accurate markings

  • Patchwork, quilting & decorative elements like ruffles/flounces

  • Pockets (patch, welt basics)

  • Bias binding, stitch-in-the-ditch, curved seams, understitching & clipped notches

  • Zips (centered, lapped, invisible basics)

  • Piping

  • Lining insertion & bag method

  • Shirring, trims & embellishments

  • Hemming variations & buttonholes

  • Pattern planning: mood boards, measurements, adjustments & fittings
